A new residential unit was planned on a waterfront wooded site in Maine to expand an existing summer compound that was built in the 1970s. The client, an elderly grandmother, gave over the original residences to her children and desired a place of her own, separate, yet near to her family.

Our intent was to give the client an elegant house that is easy to live in and maintain and that enables her to readily engage with the outside world, both socially and physically. The house is all on one level, accessed by a ramp. The entrance ramp is a continuation of the existing path in the woods that connects to the main house and loops around the property in a wonderful nature walk.
